At Naranja Pediatric Dentistry, we use professional fluoride applications to help reinforce enamel, repair early tooth decay, and provide long-lasting protection against cavities.
Safe, fast, and highly effective, fluoride applications are a key part of our preventive care approach, giving growing smiles the extra protection they need.
What Is a Fluoride Treatment?
A fluoride treatment involves the application of a concentrated fluoride formula directly to the teeth. Delivered as a gel, foam, or varnish, it works by strengthening the enamel—the hard, outer layer of teeth.
The process is usually completed within a few minutes during a dental visit, and it’s an easy addition to routine cleanings that offers lasting protection against decay.

Why Do Kids Need Fluoride?
Fluoride offers several benefits that are particularly important for children, including:
Strengthens Enamel
Fluoride helps rebuild weakened enamel and makes teeth more resistant to acids produced by bacteria in the mouth.
Prevents Cavities
By reinforcing enamel, fluoride reduces the chance of cavities developing.

Remineralizes
It can repair minor damage to teeth before cavities form, effectively reversing early decay.
Safe, Effective Prevention
Fluoride is a cost-effective and proven method to keep teeth healthy without discomfort or complicated procedures.

Is Fluoride Safe?
Fluoride has been extensively studied and recommended by leading dental and medical organizations worldwide, including the American Dental Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
When fluoride is applied in a dental office, the amount is carefully measured to give your child the most benefit with very little risk. Unlike the fluoride in toothpaste or drinking water, professional treatments use a stronger concentration—but because it's applied quickly and directly to the teeth, there's no need to worry about ingestion.

How Old Should a Child Be to Start Fluoride Treatments?
Fluoride treatments can begin as soon as baby teeth start to appear, typically around six months to one year of age. Regular checkups allow our dentist to assess a child’s risk of cavities and decide when to begin fluoride applications.
How Often Should Fluoride Treatments Be Done?
The frequency depends on individual needs. For most children, fluoride treatments every six months during regular dental checkups provide adequate protection.
However, children at higher risk for cavities—due to factors such as diet, oral hygiene, or medical conditions—may benefit from treatments every three to four months.
